When opening a new quick-service restaurant (QSR), there are many things that an entrepreneur must consider. Many new owners start by assessing their QSR franchise real estate options. Yet, there is more to it than choosing the area or territory where a business will be physically located. They must also develop the design and layout for the new building.
As with many other kinds of businesses, the site configuration of a QSR can have a major impact on what the franchise can offer to consumers. Entrepreneurs will want to ensure that whatever model they choose enhances the earning and growth potential of their new QSR.
In the QSR industry, some brands can be a bit restrictive regarding how they allow their franchises to be built. An example is how certain brands prefer uniformity across all of their franchise locations.
As a result, their franchisees must follow the same exact template for each QSR they open. While this consistency can help the overall branding strategy, it can also lower investors’ ability to accomplish their individual goals for their QSR locations. And while consumers may enjoy the food, not all of them will have the same preferences regarding the restaurant’s environment.
Golden Chick, on the other hand, offers four different site configurations for our QSR franchise locations. Each building model has its own style and competitive advantages to best align with our franchisees’ goals. We’ve taken everything that we’ve learned in the past 50 years of being in the chicken QSR business and used it to design some of the best restaurant building models possible.
Play in the Dirt by Constructing a New, Freestanding Site for Your Franchise!
When opening a new restaurant business, it’s normal to want a completely fresh start. This is why some franchisees prefer to invest in a freestanding, built-from-the-ground-up construction site for their QSR. These locations feature brand-new buildings designed to last decades and built to exact specifications. This allows Golden Chick franchisees to incorporate more of what they want in their new location rather than having to adapt to an existing building’s limitations.
Throughout our history, ground-up Golden Chick stores have been known to catch the eyes of many consumers. This helps a new franchisee quickly generate positive momentum for their location(s) once they are open for business.
Utilize Our Freestanding Conversion Option
Some franchisees may choose against investing in a brand-new construction site because of the more significant expenses that can come with it. Fortunately, converting existing buildings with drive-thru capabilities into Golden Chick restaurants is a more affordable option.
With a freestanding conversion site, franchisees can still choose a building that fits their specifications while saving on potentially high construction costs. We recommend that these models be around 2,000 square feet in total size, although we allow them to be within the range of 1,500-2,500 square feet if necessary.
The Prototypical End-Cap Restaurant
Certain markets allow Golden Chick locations to fit within existing shared spaces, such as strip mall centers. These areas can provide more favorable QSR franchise real estate locations for foot traffic than freestanding restaurants. The overall size is comparable to other models, as many of our end-cap restaurants are about 2,200 square feet.
Sharing a large retail space with other vendors can make it easier to attract consumers who are already in the mood to spend money. Each end-cap location is also equipped with drive-thru capabilities, so our franchisees have access to this valuable revenue stream.
Co-brand Opportunity with Petroleum
Golden Chick’s partnership with Petroleum allows our franchisees to open stores in their gas stations. This gives Golden Chick franchisees an opportunity to entice hungry travelers who have stopped to fill their gas tanks. Whether they are on a long road trip or simply commuting to and from work, these consumers will likely appreciate the convenience of being able to refuel themselves while also refueling their vehicles.
Because Golden Chick franchisees purchase the land that their store is located on, the value of their investment usually grows over time. If you need more information about the QSR franchise cost of each Golden Chick site configuration, review Item 7 of our most recent Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD).
